We are delighted to win a Sussex Heritage Award for our project: Halnaker Windmill for the category of 2019 PUBLIC AND COMMUNITY AWARD

The 2019 Sussex Heritage Trust Awards were announced on Wednesday 3rd July at Pangdean  Old Barn, Pyecombe with a record number of Award winners and Highly Commended projects.

“Great to see a local authority in these times of financial austerity, delivering the sensitive restoration of this iconic, historic structure, making use of oast house tiles, hand-made in Sussex.”

Judges citation

A Grade II listed building built in c1750 situated on top of a Scheduled Ancient Monument and unused since 1905. The façade has been restored with a burnt Sussex clay tile finish and mortar torching underneath secured to the brick structure. West Sussex CC have subsequently reinstated the windmill’s sails.
